Attilio Bormioli (Lavis 1876 – Trento 1958)

Opera omnia for organ

Stefano Rattini organ

From the Sala della Filarmonica di Trento comes a concert of particular interest, entirely dedicated to organ music written in the first half of the twentieth century by Don Attilio Bormioli, the founder of the Trentino organ school. It is an emotional homage made by one of his direct 'heirs', let's say, Maestro Stefano Rattini who began his studies in the organ school of the Philharmonic (held by Maestro Giancarlo Parodi) and who now occupies the place in the Trento Cathedral. by don Bormioli: organist of the cathedral.

Listening to these music - recently printed by the Philharmonic Society in the Series for the History of Trentino Music by Stefano Rattini himself and with an introduction by Antonio Carlini - is a truly precious opportunity: they are not marches or romances with a band-opera flavor as it used to be. in most of Italy. These are pages that share the deep chromatic and formal anxieties of European culture (German and French first of all), those of Brahms, Frank, Guilmant and the Italian Marco Enrico Bossi, charged with a surprising modernity for the time. Here, in musical writing, we find the same aspiration to search for new languages expressed in the contemporary figurative world in Rovereto by Fortunato Depero and Iras Baldessari, by Gino Pollini and Adalberto Libera, Luigi Bonazza and Fausto Melotti. Animated by these ferments, Renato Lunelli, a pupil of Bormioli, shortly afterwards began the rebirth of organ building art in Italy (with Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini). But together (and with) Bormioli in the Cathedral of Trento a musical chapel of absolute national importance was imposed under the guidance of Don Riccardo Felini and then Mons. Celestino Eccher, national reference point for the revival of Gregorian chant.

Stefano Rattini, titular organist of the Cathedral of Trento and professor of Theory, Analysis and Composition at the Liceo Musicale and Choreutico of Trento, teaches organ improvisation at the Conservatories of Como, Mantua, Bergamo and Trento. He graduated in the class of Giancarlo Parodi and graduated cum laude in "Ancient Organ" under the guidance of Federico Maria Recchia. Later he specialized in early music, composition and improvisation studying in London, Haarlem and Stuttgart.

He has held a considerable number of concerts in Italy and abroad, playing for important International Festivals and Reviews and collaborating with renowned conductors and soloists. Numerous his engravings made with "La Bottega Discantica", "Rainbow Classics", "Pro Civitate Cristiana", "Tactus", "Bongiovanni". He conceived and leads the "School of Listening to Organ Music" in Trento, aimed at experimenting with new methods in the critical education of the public. of the Artistic Commission of the Festival of Sacred Music of Trento and Bolzano.
