La Medium

Giancarlo Menotti

Luglio Musicale Trapanese

The Medium, composed by Giancarlo Menotti on commission from Columbia University, was performed for the first time in New York in 1946. The genesis of the work is linked to an experience actually lived in 1936 by the composer and his friend Samuel Barber who, at dinner with an English noblewoman, they attended a séance organized by their host to summon their dead adolescent daughter. In this production of Menotti's opera-thriller, the direction is by Cesare Scarton, the sets are by Michele Della Cioppa, the costumes by Anna Biagiotti and the Lights by Andrea Tocchio. Conductor Cesare Della Sciucca leads the Orchestra del Luglio Musicale Trapanese.
